Why Arsenal vs Xhaka and Smith Rowe miss Forest clash

Explanations have been provided for Granit Xhaka, Emile Smith Rowe, Fuyasu Takehiro and Flarin Balogon all missing Arsenal’s squad for tonight’s game against Nottingham Forest.

FA Cup Test

Mikel Arteta’s team will of course be back on the field soon.

Armed with good form (despite their unfortunate loss to Manchester City last game), the Gunners turned their attention to problems on the FA Cup front on Sunday.

Arsenal will start their 2021/22 campaign when they meet the aforementioned Forest at the City Stadium.

For obvious reasons, the visitors will be desperate to win, having given up their beloved FA Cup title a year ago in a 1-0 loss to Southampton in January 2021.

Zhaka and more missed

However, as mentioned above, any effort by Arteta’s forces to book their place in the fourth round will result in the Spaniard being unable to call up a large group of key players.

The quartet of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Thomas Partey, Mohamed Elneny and Nicolas Pepe, of course, will take off this week to take their place at the Africa Cup of Nations.

And, as confirmed by an official statement on the club’s social media platforms not long ago, Arsenal will also have no other four first-team options at the City Stadium.

Granit Xhaka and Folarin Balogun will both miss the game against Forest after testing positive for Covid-19.

As such, the Gunners could be forced to take on Liverpool in the upcoming Carabao Cup showdown, with summer arrival Samby Lokonga the only recognised senior midfielder available to Mikel Arteta.

Elsewhere, Emile Smith Rowe was out tonight with a tight groin, while Takehiro Tomiyasu had a calf problem:
