The first round of last year’s playoff series against the New York Islanders made Tristan Jarry very frustrated.
After taking the first role for the first time in his career, Jerry led the Penguins with stable numbers throughout the regular season. However, in the playoffs, Jerry was at least the direct result of the team’s several losses. The Islanders are an excellent team, but the Penguins became the most popular team after becoming the top team in the Eastern Conference. The Pittsburgh goalkeeper wavered at the most important moment.
With a save rate of 0.890, an above-average save rate of minus 6.07, and a high-risk save rate of 0.814, Jerry was the worst goalkeeper in last season’s playoffs in six games and may have made his team pay The price is in a greater way than we have seen in a period of time.
The Penguins need to be better. And now, despite the key physical injury this season, this is what they got from Jarry.
Jerry was suspended for two consecutive games against Montreal and Toronto. His record this year is 7-4-0, nothing special, but his statistics make him one of the best starters in the league this season. Among the goalkeepers who have started at least 10 times, Jared’s save rate was 0.934 and the average number of goals scored was 1.93. The number of goals saved in the 5v5 match was 21.53 higher than the average, which put him in all three. All enter the top 10 in the category.
“He seemed calm there,” Crosby said. “When you make a big save, it’s great, but he looks calm, which is great.”
Jarrie himself stated that the conversation with Ron Hextall, the new general manager and former NHL goalkeeper, helped motivate him to improve, and the results are there. After being promoted to the team full-time in the 2019-20 season, it looks like it makes sense to transfer Matt Murray to Jarley two summers ago. He was previously a substitute two years ago, but lost to Casey DeSmith in the 2018-19 season.
Now, Jarry looks confident and relaxed, and he has played the best hockey so far.
“I had a lot of conversations with Hexy throughout the summer,” Jarry said. “That’s what motivates me. It motivates me to become better and work harder every day. I know I will come back. I want to prove to them that they didn’t make a mistake.”
In the 17 games of the Penguins, Jerry has started 14 games, so it is obvious that coach Mike Sullivan believes in Jerry. This is good because in Pittsburgh, goalkeeping has been a fickle problem for about five years. At the end of Marc-Andre Fleury’s tenure there, his performance declined and he was replaced by a young Murray. But Murray could not replicate his success in the playoffs, and Jerry appeared. Jarry finally gave the team some stability, and, in all respects, he was the MVP of Pittsburgh at the beginning of the season.
Jerry has been one of Canada’s best goalkeepers this season, but this does not mean that he will qualify for the 2022 Olympic Games. Hockey unfiltered Ken Campbell report, Jared is not one of the players required to submit to the long list of the International Ice Federation and the International Olympic Committee on October 15. This is understandable: By that time, Jarrie had only one game this season, and his most recent ice result came from a disastrous playoff series.
On a personal level, he may wish he had the opportunity, but Jarry’s salary is to become an NHLer, and his employer in Pittsburgh has gained tremendous value from him this year. Every evolution hockey, Jarley’s 1.7 wins or more of the bench ranks eighth in the league. No player on the Penguins scored higher than 0.6. It’s difficult to compare goalkeepers with skaters, but Jerry has always been a direct reason the Penguins are so competitive, despite missing COVID-19 clichés and various injuries early in the season.
Is it a mirage? Can Jarrie really hold the fort and let Pittsburgh participate in this year’s Cup? It’s too early to say, but it’s always nice to see a good rebound story. Pittsburgh is still sitting outside looking at the Mets, but it’s hard to blame them. Due to the COVID-19 agreement, the team has eight players and coach Mike Sullivan who missed time, while Yevgeny Malkin has not yet played due to a knee injury. Therefore, it is completely understandable.
But the Penguins began to become hot, especially the return of Sidney Crosby (Sidney Crosby) is a big gain. But a lot of attention is focused on Jerry, and many fans hope that he will leave in the offseason.
Jarry’s plan to get better this year is simple. And, to be honest, he did it.
“Just get better. I want to work hard and become a better goalkeeper.”
