Liverpool cancel the first leg of the League Cup semi-final

The increasing number of injuries and the COVID-19 outbreak in the Liverpool training camp meant that their semi-final first leg match with Arsenal in the Carabao Cup was postponed.

The tie was originally scheduled to be held this Thursday, but has been rescheduled to January 20, and the game at Anfield will take place on the 13th, giving Arsenal an advantage in the second round at home.

This is because Jurgen Klopp’s team feared the outbreak of COVID-19 after a 2-2 draw with Chelsea. They were forced to cancel training sessions on Tuesday night and closed on Wednesday. At the Melwood training center, the three players and Klopp himself had disappeared after testing positive.

However, the cancellation has had a ripple effect.

Arsenal’s collateral damage to Burnley

The new date for the second leg is only 40 hours away from Arsenal’s Premier League match against Burnley, which means that changes are always possible.

Now, according to the reliable James Olley, a decision has been made.

The Gunners’ clash with Burnley at the Emirates Stadium has been rescheduled from 3pm on Saturday to 2pm on Sunday. Although this gives Arsenal players an extra day of rest, there is no doubt that it will put the work of hundreds or even thousands of fans who bought tickets for the game on the original date into trouble.
