‘That’s six…’: Arjun Rampal reacts after Tata replaces Vivo as IPL title sponsor

Tata Group has replaced Vivo as title sponsor Indian Premier League (IPL) For the upcoming season and the next season – the last two years of the contract with the Chinese mobile manufacturer.

According to multiple reports, Vivo had agreed to pay an annual sponsorship fee of INR 4.4 crore when it acquired the rights for five seasons starting in 2018 for INR 21.99 crore in 2017. While the original deal will close in 2022, it has been extended to 2023 as Dream11 replaces vivo in 2020. So now, when Tata replaces vivo, they will pay the remaining amount. However, since Vivo has not completed its five-year term as title sponsor, an additional 6% stake will be paid by Vivo to BCCI.

Jay Shah, Secretary Emeritus of the BCCI, said in a statement: “We are truly delighted that India’s largest and most trusted business group believes in IPL’s growth story and together with Tata Group, we will take Indian cricket and IPL to greater heights.”

Tata Sons also confirmed the development, but gave no further details.

“The move is expected to be a good platform to showcase Tata Group’s multiple consumer brands, including the proposed launch of its app, Tata Neu,” A Tata Group official told ET.

Meanwhile, model-turned-actor Arjun Rampal shared his delight at Tata replacing Vivo as the title sponsor of the IPL. Rampal wrote on Twitter: “That’s number six!!! The way to change the IPL sponsor logo is amazing.”

Starting with the 2022 IPL season, the BCCI has added two new franchises – Ahmedabad and Lucknow to bring more fun and entertainment to T20 cricket.
