Former New Zealand goalkeeper batsman Ian Smith questioned New Zealand’s first test when the Indian test captains Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma missed.
After sweeping the black hats 3-0 in the T20I series, India will look forward to two test series against Kane Williamson.
What interests me is that India is taking a break for the cricket players: Ian Smith
Considering the workload of the players, the Cricket Control Council of India (BCCI) has given senior players such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and frontline bowlers such as Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami to rest.
Ajinkya Rahane will lead India in the first test against New Zealand, with Cheteshwar Pujara appointed as his deputy.
Smith was not satisfied that the Indian board placed Kohli and Rohit Sharma on the bench in the first test.
“India has ruled out Koli and Sharma, which is interesting to me. These days we are resting in the cricket test, which makes me very disappointed,” Smith told Sen.com.au.
New Zealand needs Neil Wagner: Ian Smith
New Zealand will participate in their first test match since they defeated India in the final of the World Test Championship in June.
This will also mark the beginning of the black hat of the 2021-23 World Test Championship. Smith believes that the left-arm pacemaker Neil Wagner is vital to the visiting team.
“You must have (Neil) Wagner, so when you are in trouble, he can try to use his stamina to pull you out of trouble,” Smith said.
India also lost to New Zealand in the second group of the Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup. Before being whitewashed by the Indians, New Zealand lost to trans-Tasman rival Australia in the final.
The first test between India and New Zealand will begin on November 25th (Thursday) at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.
This will be the first test series for the newly appointed head coach of the Indian team, Rahul Dravid. He will also test players and find the right combination for the future.
