Arsenal step up pursuit of Arthur
Arsenal have been linked with a variety of midfielders so far this January, with only Samby Lokonga and Charlie Patino being the accepted options for Mikel Arteta.
Now, they seem to have stumbled upon their man, which is Brazil and Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo.
The Brazilian came off the bench in Juve’s Super Cup win over Inter on Wednesday night in what could be his last appearance for the club in some time.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Gunners are “pushing” on the midfielder, who is “understood as willing to join in case the clubs reach an agreement”.
Arsenal are pushing to loan Arthur Melo from Juventus. He is one of the main characters in the list. Players are understood to be willing to join in case the clubs reach a deal. 🇧🇷 #aFC
Juventus have yet to accept – they need a replacement to let Arthur go. Talks are in progress.

But there is a caveat: Juventus need a replacement.
Chelsea helping Arsenal?
However, Chelsea may hand over their man to Arsenal.
Juve will be looking to bring in Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek as a replacement, according to reliable Gianluca di Marzio.

“In fact, if Arthur (or the other midfielder) ends up leaving then Juventus would like to try to give Chelsea Loftus-Cheek to Allegri”
Although there are other options, they can cost more:
“The two alternatives are Bruno Guimaraes in Lyon and Renato Sanchez in Lille. However, these are two very complicated tracks as they will be very expensive operations.”
That means Chelsea could have a lot of potential leverage over the future of other top-four challengers, Arsenal’s midfielder. Will they justify blocking a move by refusing to approve a move for Loftus-Cheek?
