Hope to return, Tiger Woods admits that “unfortunate reality” he may not be the same player again

In his first extensive interview since the car accident in February, Tiger Woods Said that his hope is to return to competitive golf, but he never expects to participate in the highest level of competition again.

“I think it is a reality to one day participate in the tour-never full-time anymore-but to choose and choose, just like Mr. [Ben] Hogan did it,” Woods said in an interview with “Golf Digest” Zoom. “Choose a few events every year and then compete around it.

“You practice around that, and then you prepare yourself. I think this is how I have to play from now on. This is an unfortunate reality, but this is my reality. I understand it, and I accept it.”

This thinking process has gone a long way since his days in the hospital, when his attention was more on his lap.

“There was a time when I wouldn’t say it was 50/50, but if I were going to walk out of the hospital on one leg, it would be damn close to it,” he said. “Once I [kept it], I want to test it to see if my hand is still there. So even in the hospital, I will [girlfriend] Erica [Herman] with [friend] grab [McNamara] Throw me things. Throw everything to me. “

Woods mentioned Hogan, who participated in a limited schedule after returning from a car accident in the early 1950s.

On February 23, Woods’ high-speed driving accident in Southern California caused serious injuries to his right leg and foot. He only recently released a video showing him hitting the ball in the practice range wearing compression socks. The title of the video is: “Progress.”

“I don’t have to compete and play with the best players in the world to live a good life,” he said. “After my back merged, I had to climb Mount Everest again. I had to do it, and I did it. This time, I don’t think I have the body to climb Mount Everest, it’s okay. I can still participate in golf competitions. I Still, if my legs are ok, I can still click the tournament here or there.

“But in terms of climbing the mountain again and all the way to the top, I don’t think this is a realistic expectation of me.”

Woods’ comments were made before the Bahamas Heroes World Challenge, a competition he organized for his foundation. Woods is scheduled to hold a press conference on Tuesday.
