Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has offered insight into the possibility of the club’s upcoming derby with Tottenham Hotspur being postponed.

Liverpool fail to capitalise on Xhaka sacking

Of course, Arteta brought his troops back into action not long ago.

The Gunners travel to Anfield hoping to take a step towards a Carabao Cup final after seeing their FA Cup plans fail in their first game against Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

Despite all that was said and done, Arsenal did not manage to get back on the winning path, but the north Londoner did provide an impressive introduction to himself.

Midway through the first half on Merseyside, all hopes of a positive result appeared to be dashed when Granit Xhaka was ordered to march:

However, a superb defensive performance over the ensuing hour ensured that Arsenal eventually emerged from the conflict with a well-deserved 0-0 stalemate, meaning there is still work to be done before a return at the Emirates Stadium next week.

‘It’s a possibility’

Although his side held on to the draw in the end, the aforementioned Xhaka still felt the need to make a public apology to everyone associated with Arsenal via social media after the game.

The Switzerland international posted the following on his official Instagram account:

“I want to apologise to everyone. I’m proud of my team and the spirit they showed in keeping a clean sheet tonight.

When it comes to post-Anfield developments, it’s also worth noting Mikel Arteta’s latest comments surrounding the possibility of this weekend’s much-anticipated north London derby being cancelled.

Arsenal’s personnel crisis increased again tonight with Xhaka imminently suspended and Cedric Suarez injured.

In turn, Arteta went on to admit that Sunday’s match at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium could not be ruled out:
