The deadline Arsenal star Granit Xhaka could face after being sacked against Liverpool on Friday afternoon has been offered.

Despite early reds, Gunners are still tall

Switzerland international Xhaka’s name was of course in the headlines again on Thursday night.

That’s due to the oft-maligned midfielder’s latest frenzy during Arsenal’s Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg tie with Liverpool.

Xhaka received his marching orders in the opening 25 minutes at Anfield after Reds star Diogo Jota paid off with a clumsy last-man challenge on the edge of the box:

Arsenal continued to hold on for the rest of the game, with a 0-0 stalemate to keep the lead ahead of their return in north London next week.

However, Xhaka has again been widely criticised as it is only the latest in a seemingly never-ending series of costly misjudgments by the 29-year-old.

This comes as the Carabao Cup red card carries over into the Premier League, further adding to Mikel Arteta’s ongoing crisis in the middle of the park.

Burnley return?

However, if the latest news from the media on Friday afternoon is anything to go by, it appears that Arsenal will not be without their midfield metronome for as long as initially expected.

As the Anfield game drew to a close, it was widely reported that Xhaka was handed a four-match ban for his second consecutive red card of the season.

That would rule out the Swiss meeting with all Tottenham, Liverpool, Burnley and Wolves.

However, according to Football.london’s Kaya Kaynak, Arsenal look set to get a boost with Xhaka returning to face Burnley next weekend.

It was previously confirmed that the ex-Mönchengladbach player was sacked on Thursday for denying a goal opportunity, not a serious foul:
