Alex Ovechkin signs a 5-year contract with the Capitals

Alex Ovechkin will stay in the capital. In a press release on Tuesday, the Washington Capitals announced that the team had signed a five-year, $47.5 million contract with Ovechkin to remain with the team.

After the 35-year-old Ovechkin was selected by the team with the first overall pick in the 2004 NHL draft, his entire career has been spent in the Capitals. The Russian forward has scored 730 goals and 590 assists in his 16-year NHL career, and is about to end a team-high 24 goals season.
