After Rashid stepped down, Mohammad Nabi was appointed as the captain of the T20 WC Afghanistan team

After star spinner Rashid Khan resigned as captain, experienced all-around player Mohamed Nabi was appointed as the captain of Afghanistan for the upcoming T20 World Cup. He protested against choosing a national team without his input.

The Afghan Cricket Board (ACB) has not officially announced Nabi’s appointment as captain, but the 36-year-old all-around player said on Twitter that he has been selected to lead the team.

“At this critical stage, I admire ACB’s decision to lead the national cricket team in the T20 format,” 36-year-old Nabi wrote on Twitter.

“…We will show the country’s wonderful picture in the upcoming T20 World Cup,” said the spin bowling all-around player who played for the Hyderabad Sunrisers in the Indian Premier League.

In a shocking decision, Rashid resigned as team captain on Thursday and stated that he did not seek his opinion before finalizing the national team lineup for the T20 World Cup.

“As the captain and head of the national team, I reserve the right to participate in the selection of the team,” the 22-year-old player said in a post shared on Twitter.

“The selection committee and ACB have not yet obtained my consent to the team announced by ACB media,” Rashid said.

“I decided to resign as captain of the Afghanistan T20, effective immediately. It has always been my pride to play for Afghanistan.” The T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held from October 17th to November 14th in the UAE and Oman.
