Security measures around the New Zealand women’s cricket team have been tightened after threats were received before the one-day international match between Leicester and England on Tuesday.
Three days after New Zealand abandoned the tour to Pakistan for safety reasons, England earlier withdrew the men’s and women’s teams from next month’s Pakistan tour.
New Zealand Cricket (NZC) said it had sent a threatening email to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

NZ Cricket’s statement said: “It is reported that the European Central Bank has received a threatening email related to NZC.”
“Although this did not specifically mention the white fern, it has been taken seriously, investigated and deemed untrustworthy. The white fern has now arrived in Leicester, and as a precaution, the safety measures around them have been strengthened.”
The England team leads the five-game series 2-0.
