Chelsea advance to Wembley

It’s always an uphill struggle for Tottenham to get back on their feet in the Carabao Cup after a 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge, so it was proven when Chelsea moved to Wembley , albeit in a slightly less comfortable way than the first stop might suggest.

Tottenham were better for the second time. In fact, it was hard for them not to, but with Antonio Conte’s side showing more battle in front of their own fans, VAR was forced three times (albeit correctly) to save Chelsea.

However, the results are in no doubt.

Chelsea added a third to their tally early in the first half thanks to Antonio Rudiger’s goal, tying in from a corner. From there, albeit relatively smooth on the pitch, Tottenham could never get a foothold on the scoresheet as they looked for a remarkable comeback.

The result means Chelsea will now face either Arsenal or Liverpool in the final, with the pair of clubs set to battle on Thursday night.

But it was still a learning night for both managers, and 101 Check out three things we learned from this encounter.

1. Have Chelsea found a replacement at left-back?

With Ben Chilwell injured at the end of the season, all attention has recently been on Chelsea’s search for a full-back in the transfer market

While they may still want to bring Emerson back from his loan spell at Lyon, Marensal proved that Tuchel can be very capable in the position if he chooses a back four, like That’s what his legs in this tie do.

The defender, traditionally a centre-back, did not do any damage on the left side of the back three, either as an orthodox left-back or when Marcos Alonso entered the fray.

With so many defensive problems Chelsea could face this season, and with both Rudiger and Andreas Christensen’s futures up in the air, Sarr could prove to be an excellent addition to the squad.

2. VAR prevents farce

VAR was at one point the hero of the night as it prevented a pair of hilarious penalties for the home team.

With Chelsea leading 1-0, a challenge from Rudiger on the edge of the box had Andre Marina pointed to the spot, but VAR correctly indicated the foul had occurred a few yards outside the box.

Then, ten minutes into the second half, it was forced to intervene again after Kepa’s perfect challenge to Lucas Moura was seen as an on-field penalty.

It could be a very different tie without this oft-criticized (and justifiably) technology. In fact, Chelsea got the result they deserved.

3. Spurs need investment

To compete with the bigs, Tottenham need investment.

Not only that, but they also need to invest in the right areas – it’s hard to imagine a move as Heung Min-sun’s move was a success and Giovanni Lo Celso’s and Tangi Ndombele’s The sums sometimes reach 100 million under the radar, and they are symptomatic of the club’s major problems. Money is spent in the wrong place.

Now, with Almost nothing was spent in January, they can’t be mean or get it wrong. Antonio Conte’s team selection shows this, with a lack of creativity in midfield, right-backs at left-back and no proven striker to pair with Harry Kane.

As we all know, if Conte feels the club does not support him, his fuse is short, and if Daniel Levy doesn’t take out his chequebook, there may be fireworks.
